18th Annual Juneteenth Day Celebration on Saturday, June 16, at the
Penn Park
Kujichagulia
- Madison Center for Self Determination is proud to present the 18th
Annual Juneteenth Day Celebration on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the
Penn Park located on Madison's southside. The theme for this year's
Celebration is "At The Crossroads…We Choose Hope over Despair," The
Main Stage will consist of artistic expressions that will span from
slavery to contemporary times and feature a tribute to the God Father
of Soul, Mr. James Brown with a James Brown Contest along with
showcasing Madison's very own "American Idol" Denise Jackson.
Juneteenth Day Committee is calling out to local artists within the
Black Community to showcase their talent through various forms, the
spoken or song word, movement, dramatization or instrumentally as well
as enter the James Brown Contest with $150 prize for the best
impersonation. Interested performers are invited to please call the
Kujichagulia Office at 257-2606, ext 213 to leave their contact

Auditions will held on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. until
3:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 2001 Taft Street. Please note
that this is an opportunity to showcase your talents to audience of
15, 000 attendees. The Juneteenth Celebration is an alcohol-drug free
family event and all performances will follow that protocol.
